Film: Kabzaa

Cast: Upendra, Shriya Saran, Sudeep, Shivarajkumar, Murali Sharma, Ashwath Neenasam and others

Director: R Chandru

Producer: R Chandru

From the beginning R Chandru has been saying that his latest film ‘Kabzaa’ is a technician’s film and is inspired by ‘KGF’. It is indeed true and ‘Kabzaa’ is very much inspired by ‘KGF’ and follows in the steps of the film including the storyline, characters, making, technicalities and other aspects.

‘Kabzaa’ is the story of Arkeshwar (Upendra) an Indian Air Force pilot and a son of a freedom fighter. He is in love with erstwhile Kingdom’s princess called Madhumathi (Shriya Saran) and both plans to lead a happy life. However, Arkshewar’s brother Sankeshwar (Sunil Puranik) gets beheaded in a tragic incident. Arkeshwar’s life takes a turn when he takes revenge by killing his brother’s killers. What all happens next and how does Arkeshwar becomes a mafia head forms the crux of the film.

The film starts in current times with Bhargav Bakshi played by Sudeep narrating the story of Arkeshwar. Then the story travels back to the 60s and 70s and tells the life and times of Arkeshwar. However, Chandru doesn’t end the film and gives a cue to the second part which is yet to be made. The conclusion of Arkeshwar’s revenge drama is yet to be given in the sequel and the audience has to wait till then. So, it is quite difficult to judge the film till then.

Regarding ‘Kabzaa’, it is purely a technician’s film with all technicians including the cinematographer, music director, art director, costumer and the VFX department working hard to make the film a visual bonanza. The film is rich in visuals and is a treat to watch. Ravi Basrur’s songs are good, but the background score is deafening.

There are many characters and twists and turns in the story which is quite difficult to remember. Upendra for his capabilities doesn’t have a great role in the film to boast off. Shriya Saran looks gorgeous on screen. Sudeep woos the audience with his mannerism and style. As for as the rest of the characters, they don’t have much to do in the film. Actors like Kota Srinivasa Rao, Posani Krishna Murali are just seen in some shots and are wasted.
