It’s been a year since a film of Dhananjay (in a full-fledged role) was released. ‘Gurudev Hoysala’ was released in April last year and after that Dhananjay was seen sharing screen space with Jaggesh in ‘Thotapuri 2’ which was a disaster at the box-office. Now the Sandalwood actor is back with a new film called ‘Kotee’ which is all set to release on the 14th of June.
Dhananjay plays the role of a commoner in the film being directed by Param. Speaking about his role, ‘I liked the story which param narrated. The protagonist haunted me a lot. This is the story of a common man and this story can happen in everybody’s lives. Everybody can easily connect to this story and that is what appealed me to take up the project’ says Dhananjay.
The actor says that this is a new story and has no reference to reference to any film. ‘This is complete new to me. The film has no reference and is very close to real life. I have done different kinds of roles and I am happy to say that I am a versatile actor. Though I have done roles of commoners earlier, their struggles and conflicts are different. Kotee is quite different from Ratnakar of ‘Ratnan Prapancha’ says Dhananjay.
Playing the role of a commoner is quite difficult says Dhananjay. ‘I have done different characters in my career like Daali, Seena and Mitayi Suuri. Playing eccentric roles is easy compared to playing simple roles. Though the characters of Kotee and Ratnakar are simple, they are very challenging. Its not easy to portray such kind of roles. I prefer such roles because they are challenging. If we don’t do such roles, then we would be doing the same thing again and again.
‘Kotee’ is the first Kannada production from Jio Studios and stars Moksha Kushal, Rangayana Raghu, Tara, Ramesh Indira and others in prominent roles. Vasuki Vaibhav is the music composer.
