Sandalwood has seen a lot of ‘accidental gangster’ films in the past. Right from ‘Om’, there has been many such tales told on celluloid. This week’s release ‘Ronny’ starring Kiran Raj is another tale in the same genre.
‘Ronny’ tells the story of Raghava (Kiran Raj), a cinema student who aspires to be a hero one day. He accidentally kills a gangster’s son, who tries to trap him and his girlfriend wrongly. Raghava goes to jail on the charges of murder and is called as Ronny in the underworld. Returning back from jail after five years, he decides to pursue his career in acting. He also gets an opportunity to realise his dreams of becoming in a hero. Will Ronny’s dream gets fulfilled? Forms the rest of the story.
A lot of films have been released with the theme of accidental gangster. What sets ‘Ronny’ apart is it is told in a non-linear format. Apart from this, there is nothing very special about the story. This story of an innocent human turning criminal due to various circumstances have been told in n number of films till now and the audience are quite familiar with the story and the climax.
Director Gurutej Shetty tries to tell this in a new format with good songs and a lot of twists and turns. He does various efforts in captivating the audience with and different screenplay. He is successful in bits and pieces. However, as a whole, the film needed much more to keep the audience glued to their seats.
Kiran Raj has given his best as Raghava and Ronny. He is not only good in action sequences, but also in emotions. Radhya and Sameeksha as the heroines look cute on screen. Apoorva who was often seen as a dancing doll, plays the role of a rough and tough police officer in the film. There are a lot of characters including Ravishankar, Mico Nagaraj, B Suresh, Dharmendra Aras, Yash Shetty and others and everybody has done their bit aptly. Music by Manikanth Kadri and cinematography by Raghavendra B Kolar adds to the technical values of the film.
‘Ronny’ cannot be called as something different or unique which is new to Kannada films. Yet the film may be liked by mass audience.
‘Bagheera’ release date out; film to release on October 31st
