Film: Ramana Avatara
Producer: Amrej Suryavamshi
Director: Vikas Pampapathi
Starring: Rishi, Shubhra Ayyappa, Pranitha Subhash, Arun Sagar and others
After ‘Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakasha’, actor Rishi is back in a full-fledged role on big screen. This time he is back at what he is best known for, the comedy. As the title itself suggests, that the film revolves around Rama (Rishi) and his various avatars in the film.
Rama is known as Gentleman Rama in his hometown. After his ladylove walks out of his life in search of a job in Bangalore, Rama decides to stop the youngsters who are moving to the city in search of better employment prospects and bring all the required facilities to his hometown itself. For that, he first decides to become a politician and collects money from the people for contesting the elections. However, a friend of his runs away with all the money and Rama is in a fix. Though he doesn’t want to leave his hometown, he doesn’t have any alternative rather than running away to avoid getting beaten up. What happens next tells ‘Ramana Avatara’.
The film is an out and out entertainer and though the film has nothing to do with the Epic, there are few characters and incidents which reminds Ramayana. The film tries to highlight Ramayana’s core values through its characters, who share some similarities with mythological figures. Pranitha’s character Rita is based on the character of Sita and Arun Sagar’s character is based on Ravana.
Though the idea is good, writer and director Vikas Pamapathi fail in execution. The first half of the film runs off smoothly. However, it is the second half which lets down the audience. There are some entertaining parts here also, for example the Marijuana episode is very hilarious and is one of the highlights of the film. The film’s strength is in humour. Barring a few scenes, there is nothing much to be happy about.
Rishi is at his best throughout. He perfectly fits for the character of Rama and if not for Rishi, the film would have been boring. Both Shubhra Ayyappa and Pranitha Subhash doesn’t have much to do in the film. Arun Sagar as the villain have done his bit.
Judah Sandy’s couple of songs and background music lifts the film.
