Actor and Uttama Prajakeeya Party’s president Upendra has said that he is confident that the Party will play a prominent role in the forthcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.

This time 110 candidates from Uttama Prajakeeya Party will be contesting the Karnataka Assembly elections and Upendra introduced all the candidates during a media interaction in Bangalore on Monday morning.

‘I am not here to prove majority here. We are doing this in an organic way. Only 110 candidates from various constituencies have come forward to contest the elections. We have not fielded contestants just for the sake. I have not asked anybody to come forward, nor have given tickets to anybody to contest the elections’ said Upendra.

Speaking about the procedure of selecting the prospective candidates in any constituency, ‘anybody who wants to contest in the election must come in a procedure. They must go to the people, show the ideology of the party, people must accept and sign it and contestants must do videos and upload it to our website. Those who have got the majority in constituency, they will be given an opportunity to contest the elections. All the candidates have made a promissory note saying that what they will do if they win. If they don’t do what they have accepted, then we will definitely fight over it. The party workers, voters will fight to make the candidate resign as a representative’ said Upendra.

Upendra urges people to take the responsibilities and not leave the entire responsibility on the elected representative. ‘People are forgetting their responsibilities. They just vote and forget. How can anybody say that someone is honest? The only solution to that people should take the responsibility and authority. Elected representatives only do their work. They are not here to do social service. They are here to work. They are being paid for that. If they are being paid for the work, then it is not service. My intention is to garner the attention of the people regarding their responsibilities. This may not happen immediately. At least the next generation must understand what democracy is. Nobody here is worried about win or failure. We are here to send a message to the future generations. I am confident that Uttama Prajakeeya Party will play a prominent role in this year’s elections’ said Upendra.

The actor-director says there are no CM candidates in his party. ‘We ask people about their problems and demands are. There is no post here. Everybody should follow the SOPs irrespective of who they are. He must not take decision and the decision must be taken by the people. People must decide who should be the authority. I am always a CM (Common Man). It is the common man who is the king in democracy. If I am the king, why do you want me to become a minister?’ questions Upendra.

Stars like Sudeep, Darshan and others are campaigning for various candidates, but no celebrity has come forward for to campaign for UPP. Upendra himself is not campaigning for any candidate from his party. ‘Since the candidates are directly selected by the voters, there is no need for anybody to campaign for them. People are the celebrities. Our candidates are our stars. Cinema stars are stars only on the screen, but in real life, people are the real stars. We want the participation and campaign of the real stars’ said Upendra.

When asked whether such an ideology would work in the current times, the actor took an example of the great scientist Einstein. ‘Einstein had said that imagination is very important. Someone wanted to contact another through wireless technology. Everybody called him a madman. But he proved it can happen. Without imagination we cannot do anything in life. We need a change. If everybody supports, then this imagination will turn into a reality’ concluded Upendra.
