Munirathna drops ‘Uri Gowda Nanje Gowda’ even before its launch

Sandalwood producer and Horticulture Minister Munirathna has decided to back out of producing ‘Uri Gowda Nanje Gowda’ after meeting Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji in Mandya.

Earlier, Munirathna had announced that he would be producing a film on the lives of soldiers Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda, who had arguably killed Tippu Sultan. Munirathna had even registered the title of the film in the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and the film was supposed to be directed by R S Gowda.

If everything had gone right, then that the film was supposed to be launched on the 18th of May. He had also released printed Ads in newspapers. Munirathna had also announced that the film will have a screenplay by Minister Ashwathanarayan and the film would be presented by Bharatiya Janatha Party leaders R Ashok and C T Ravi.

Just after the announcement, Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji asked him to meet him in person in Mandya on Monday. After the meeting, the producer backed out of producing the film.

The Vokkaliga seer is said to be upset about the making of the movie without any documents or records about their involvement in Tippu’s death and has slammed the producer for deciding to make the movie. The seer is said to be of the opinion the movie might hurt the sentiments of the Vokkaliga community as there are no prior historical records on the characters.

Speaking about his decision to back out of the film, ‘I have no intention of hurting the sentiments of the people. As the seer said the film should not be made without any historical records, I decided to drop the film’ said Munirathna.
