‘Veera Kambala’ directed by veteran filmmaker Rajendra Singh Babu is all set to hit the screens on the 27th of February. As the release date is coming near, the film team has been revealing unique aspects about the movie. One such aspect is that Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade is seen in a significant role in the film.
The making of ‘Veer Kambala’ has a long and extensive history behind it. Rajendra Singh Babu developed this film by gathering detailed information about Kambala, a traditional sport with a legacy of nearly 700 years. There was a news that Veerendra Heggade had brought a character to life in this film. However, the director and the film team had maintained secrecy without revealing further details. Now, director Rajendra Singh Babu himself has introduced the audience to the character played by Heggade and shared the reasons behind selecting him for the role.
Kambala has an inseparable connection between with Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade. Kambala, which until then had been a private rural sport limited to the Tulu Nadu region, was organised on a grand scale in the 1970s by Veerendra Heggade. Following that, it evolved in various forms and went on to captivate the entire state of Karnataka.

For this reason, Babu wanted Veerendra Heggade to be a part of the film and portray an important role in the film. Heggade, who holds a special affection for Kambala, agreed to act in the movie. Ultimately, he has brought life to a character that serves as the very soul of the film, conveying its core message. According to director Rajendra Singh Babu, Heggade’s role is one of the major attractions of ‘Veera Kambala’. The film team also feels grateful that Heggade participated in the shoot with great enthusiasm.
‘Veera Kambala’ is produced under the banner of Baba’s Blessings by Dr Vineet Vijay Kumar Reddy and Arun Rai Todar. Prakash Rai and Ravishankar play the lead roles, while Radhika Chetan appears in a special role. The film will also be released in the Tulu language and features well-known Tulu theatre artists such as Naveen Padil, Gopinath Bhat, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor amongst others.
The screenplay and dialogues are by Vijay Kodialbail, while Manikanth Kadri is in charge of the music. R Giri is he cinematographer, while art direction is by Chandrashekar Suvarna.
