‘Kantara – Chapter 1’ in the best films list at the Oscars

Hombale Films led by Vijay Kiragandur, has achieved another major milestone on the global stage. Two of the global hit films, which were released in 2025 by Hombale Films, has been officially nominated to be included in the General Entry List of the Oscars.

The 2026 Oscars has been scheduled on the 16th of March and this time, two of the films which Hombale Films have been associated closely with including ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ and ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ have officially been included in the General Entry List of the Oscars, the world’s most prestigious film awards. While, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ was directly produced by Hombale Films, ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ has been distributed by Hombale across India.

Both films are eligible for consideration in major categories, including Best Picture. ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ is not only eligible for Best Picture but has also emerged as a strong contender in the Best Animated Feature Film category. With this, it has made history as the first Indian animated film to be considered in this category.

Out of only five Indian films included in the Oscars’ General Entry List this year, two belong to Hombale Films, which is a notable achievement for the production house. Directed by Rishab Shetty, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ has captured global attention through its deep cultural roots. Meanwhile, ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’, directed by Ashwin Kumar, has created excitement with its stunning visuals. Both films are now also eligible to compete in major Oscar categories such as best director, best actor, cinematography and screenplay.
