Film: Sutradhari
Director: Kiran Kumar
Producer: Navarasan
Starring: Chandan Shetty, Apoorva, Navarasan, Tabla Nani, Sanjana Anand and others
This week’s release marks the debut of well-known rapper Chandan Shetty as an actor. Chandan plays a cop in this whodunit thriller with a touch of social concern.
The film revolves around a few people who are abducted by strangers. They are let off after a couple of days and once they are free, they attempt suicides. The case is handed over to a cop called Vijay (Chandan Shetty) who is famous for his reckless methods of investigations. After a suspension, Vijay takes over the charge of this cage and investigate the matter. As he unfolds the mysteries around this kidnap and suicide case, he understands that whoever he has arrested are just pawns and the thread-holder is someone else. Who is this thread-holder and why is he doing all these forms the crux of the film.
Unlike other mystery films, ‘Sutradhari’ takes time to take off. The first half of the film is slow and once Inspector Vijay becomes serious with the case he has been handed; the film turns serious also. The interval point is of course the high point of the film. The second half gains pace and has a lot of twists and turns. However, the film feels somewhat predictable and debutant director Kiran Kumar should have worked more on the screenplay which would have made the audience glued to their seats right from the beginning. Though the opening shows promise, the next few minutes feels out of the place because of songs and the romantic subplot.
Chandan Shetty as the cop has done justice to his character. His high energy makes the film an engaging watch. Though Apoorva has done her bit, her character is short lived in the film. Tabla Nani as the sidekick has done his job easily. Producer Navarasan also plays a notable supporting role. Sanjana Anand is restricted only for a song. Technically, except for the songs the film lacks visual flair. Chandan Shetty has given two hummable songs which are a treat to his fans.
People who love watching crime thrillers, can watch ‘Sutradhari’.
