There are no educational programs that instruct students on how to sustain relationships. These are aspects of life that cannot be conveyed through formal education. Rather, they are lessons gained from personal encounters and the difficulties that life brings. This week’s release ‘Out of Syllabus’ tells such a story that life teaches, which is rather out of syllabus.

‘Out of Syllabus’ tells the present-day story of Deva (Pradeep Doddaiah) and Divya (Hrithika Srinivas) returning back to their college for felicitation ceremony at their college. The story slowly unfolds about how the duo met a few years back and love blossomed between them. They decide to marry, but life has different plans for them. They get separated due to various reasons. What are the reasons for separation has to be checked out in the film.

The title ‘Out of Syllabus’ implies something unique or captivating, but the actual delivery does not match the anticipation. A lot of films about college life and its aftermath have been released in the recent years. ‘Out of Syllabus’ is another addition to it. A significant hurdle in watching the film is its outdated humour and disjointed screenplay. The director has tried to narrate a simple story in a non-linear matter, which at times appears too confusing. It’s quite difficult to understand what is reality and which one is a flashback.

However, the film has some very good points. Particularly, the last 15 minutes of the film, where in the message which tells how ego is the main root of all the problems. But the overall screenplay and narration is very tedious. The story is said to be inspired by true incidents. Beyond the talents of the main actors, the movie falls short in entertaining, which makes its two-hour length seem excessive.

Performance wise, Pradeep Doddaiah tries his best to give a decent performance. Of the many responsibilities, he is better in acting. Hrithika Srinivas also excels. Yogaraj Bhatt, Acyuth Kumar has done their best. Talented performers like Mahantesh and Jehangir are wasted.

Review: ‘Max’ is a good mixture of drama and action
