After ‘Swathi Muttina Male Haniye’, Raj B Shetty is back with a new film ‘Roopanthara’. Like his previous two films, this one is also of a different genre and is depiction of metamorphosis of a life cycle.
‘Roopanthara’ is a film of five different stories that is tied together with a common theme of metamorphosis. The film starts off with an old man in a futuristic world. The old man in a bid to save his life from a superior group offers to tell stories. He strikes a deal with them saying that if the stories impress them, he must be spared with his life.
While, the first one is about a street-smart rowdy, the second one is about a poor old man fulfilling his wife’s wish by taking her to the city. The third one is about a beggar who is accused of kidnapping a baby and fourth one is about a teenager who plays a deadly online game that involves real-life tasks. All the four stories are not only interconnected with each other, but is based on the theme of metamorphosis. Each of the story represent different stages of life and is similar to that of a life cycle of a worm.
‘Roopanthara’ is a very good content driven film in the recent past. The film has some very good performances combined with good production values. The first half moves briskly, while the second half is a bit slow. Though the climax of the film is quite predictable, the overall experience is very good. This film is not at all for the masses and the audience who seeks rich entertainment. ‘Roopanthara’ is a thought-provoking film which showcases the four stages of a worm to become a butterfly.
As told earlier, the film has good performances and production values. Though not a masterpiece, the film is a good attempt by a debut director. Watch it for the experiment it is.
