Shashank’s much anticipated film of the year; ‘Kousalaya Supraja Rama’ starring ‘Darling’ Krishna in lead role is finally here. There have been many films that centre on the mother-son sentiment, but what distinguishes this one is its view of the male ego, a theme that is rarely covered in cinema. The film delivers a potent message to patriarchal culture.

‘Kousalaya Supraja Rama’ starts with Siddegowda (Rangayana Raghu) a chauvinist, who is of the belief that a woman’s women’s only responsibility is to take care of the home and serve men with their life. He behaves towards his wife (Sudha Belawadi) in a patriarchal manner. Their lone child, Ram (Darling Krishna), grows up imitating his father and ends up looking just like him. His male ego has no limits.

He slowly falls in love with Shivani (Brinda Acharya) and everything goes on smoothly for the first few days. Slowly, chaos ensues between them because of Ram’s attitude. Ram must now decide whether to adjust his perspective on women or he will lose his girl. Will he change his attitude? Or will he lose his girl? Form the crux of the film.

The film is a tribute to mothers’ selfless love and sacrifices. Apart from that, what sets the film apart is the definition of a ‘Real Man’. It’s not only about the ‘Real Man’, but about all the human beings. The film is an ode to the ‘Real Man’ and ends with a good and soul stirring message. The film has the ability to appeal to viewers from every age group and has a message that will resonate with them on an emotional level.

Shashank has directed a few films which revolve around the mother-son sentiment as well as love stories. ‘Kousalya Supraja Rama’ is a blend of both and stands apart. He has been telling that this film is the best in his career and he has proved it with ‘KSR’.

Krishna portrays two different personalities and he offers a consistent performance. It’s quite difficult for a popular hero to choose such a role and Krishna has dared to take up the challenge efficiently. Brinda portrays her role effectively and has a good appearance. Milana Nagraj steals the show and is seen in an unseen persona. The much-needed comic relief is provided by Nagabhushan as Santu. Rangayana Raghu, Sudha Belawadi and Achyuth Kumar as usual get applause for the portrayal of their characters.

Technically, the film is rich. Songs like ‘Shivani’, ‘Preethisuve’ and others composed by Arjun Janya are already hit with the audience. Sugnan’s cinematography brings a glow to the film. The editing is slick and the film is just 147 minutes in length. The first half of the film moves on in a jiffy and the second half has a lot of emotional content which makes the audience eyes wet.

On a whole, ‘Kousalya Supraja Rama’ is not only a film for parents, children or lovers, but a film for the entire family.
