After Rakshith Shetty starrer ‘Kirik Party’, Sandalwood hasn’t seen a substantial college drama for a time. This week’s release ‘Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’ directed by debutante Nithin Krishnamurthy fills the vaccum.
‘Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’ revolves around students of a Boys hostel. A few students, who are preparing for the exam the next day, come to know that the warden of that hostel has died. If that is not enough, they discover that the warden has written the names of all those students in his death note. If the police get the letter, the boys think that they will be in a fix. They decide to take the dead body from the hostel before anybody comes to know about it. What happens in this regard forms the crux of the film.
‘Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’ is just full of fun and chaotic moments, unlike Kirik Party, which had a decent combination of fun, love and passion. Serious moviegoers might not understand the motivation behind this film, as the story’s bizarre element spirals out of control. Most of the time, the humour is loud. For those who have never experienced a college dormitory stay, may view it as yet another pointless amusement.
The movie contains at least a dozen key characters that are always active on screen. Every character has a distinct mannerism that makes Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare stand out from the competition. Most impressive are the characters of Ajith, Jeeni, Warden, Echo and Xavier. Rishab Shetty, Pawan Kumar and Shine Shetty’s cameo doesn’t add much to the film. Diganth as editor Bunty Gowda engages the audience with his performance. Ramya’s scenes seem to be added deliberately in the film.
Technically, the film has rich production values with Aravind Kashyap’s cinematography and Ajaneesh’s music engaging the audience. Nithin Krishnamurthy’s dialogues are also one of the highlights of the film.
‘Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’ is a film for the younger audience and an ideal movie to see if you have fond memories of your hostel and college days.
