In the last few months many whodunits have released in Sandalwood. This week’s release ‘Siren’ also joins the bandwagon of such mystery thrillers.
The film starts with the death of a bank employee called Shwetha. Inspector Chandra Bose (Sharath Lohitashwa) who is in charge of investigating the death also dies mysteriously in a road mishap immediately. The case is then handed over to a young and efficient Police officer called Samarth (Praveer Shetty).
Samarth while investigating the case finds that an NRI has been killed a few days back. He assumes that both the cases are interlinked with each other as the vehicles of both the bank employee and the NRI are found dug deeply in a ground. How the cases are interconnected forms the rest of the film. Telling more beyond this would be a spoiler for the audience.

‘Siren’ is a mystery thriller with lots of twists and turns. However, a slow pace has hampered the prospects of a good film. The film has suspense elements right from the beginning, but it does not create an impact on the audience. Director Raja Venkaiah should have worked more on the screenplay.
The film marks the debut of Praveer Shetty as a hero to Sandalwood. Praveer looks stiff on screen, but is good in action sequences. He has to concentrate more on his acting skills in the future. While most of the debutantes make their entry with films with the regular stuff, kudos to the actor for making a daring debut with a different film,
Other actors including Sharath Lohitashwa, Pavitra Lokesh, Achyuth Kumar, ‘Sparsha’ Rekha, Avinash and others have done their bit. There is no heroine or romantic numbers in the film. There is nothing great about the technical aspects of the film.
In spite, of thrilling elements throughout, ‘Siren’ does not stand apart due to various reasons. What has the title ‘Siren’ got do with the film is a question that remains unanswered.
