‘Antha’ is based on the novel of the same name H K Anantha Rao. The novel was published in Sudha Magazine and was a huge hit among the readers. I read the story and planned to make a film with it. H N Maruthi, Venu and K C N Chandru came forward to produce the film through Parimala Arts. It was a different subject and was a huge risk then. Speaking about the success of ‘Antha’, ‘the film was not only a huge hit in Karnataka, but many stalwarts from other film industries including Raghavendra Rao, Dharmendra, Kader Khan flew down to Bangalore to buy the remake rights of the film. It was one of the real Pan Indian films which were directly made in other languages. The film was a hit in other languages also. The film became an inspiration to more than 2000 films. The film got featured in Variety Magazine. It became a milestone in not only Kannada film industry, but in Indian film industry’ said Babu.
