It’s been a while since Sandalwood actor ‘Sardar’ Satya of ‘Aa Dinagalu’ fame featured in a prominent role in any film. Now the actor has been getting accolades for his performance in Kollywood film ‘Viduthalai 1’.
‘Viduthalai 1’ which is directed by well known director Vetrimaran was released last month and is getting rave reviews from audience as well as critics. The film which features Vijay Sethupathi, Suri, Gautham Vasudeva Menon, Prakash Rai and others has Sardar Satya play the role of police officer Velmurugan.
Sathya made his debut as an actor in Sardar’s role through ‘Aa Dinagalu’. The film went on to become a huge hit and Satya acted in films like ‘Slum Bala’, ‘Rajdhani’, ‘Dyavre’, ‘Chambal’ and others. He also turned hero with ‘Gundru Govi’, but the film was a failure at the box-office. His second film as a hero ‘Beera’ never released. Meanwhile, Satya who stayed away from big screen for a few years produced popular shows like ‘Padmavati’, ‘Kannada Kogile’ under his own Sainirmala Productions. Now the actor is back to big screen in a big way with ‘Viduthalai’.

Satya says it was because of Jacob Varghese he landed a role in Vetrimaran’s ‘Viduthalai’. ‘Jacob and I share a good rapport. I played an important role in his film ‘Chambal’. He and Vetrimaran are good friends. Once I got a chance to meet Vetrimaran. He studied me closely for a minute. In three months, I was a part of ‘Viduthalai’ recalls Satya.
The actor says it was his mother’s wish that he act in a Kollywood film. ‘I hail from the border district of Chamarajanagar. I can speak five languages fluently. Though I worked hard here, all my hard work went in vain due to various reasons. I did not get good offers and even if I got a film, I was not being paid well. My mother advised me to try my luck in the Tamil film industry. But my bad luck, my parents are not there to see my debut Tamil film’ recalls Satya.
The actor says when he was chosen for ‘Viduthalai’, he thought it would be a small role. ‘When I was selected for that film, I thought it might be a small role. But I worked for about 120 days in that film. I left all my old memories behind. I did what Vetrimaran said. I got an opportunity to act with talented artists like Vijay Sethupathi, Suri, Gautham Menon, Rajeev Menon etc. My work is not finished yet. My role continues in the second part as well. The leftover shooting for the sequel will commence soon’ says Satya.
Satya feels ‘Viduthalai’ got back what he lost all these years. ‘Before this I only knew Karnataka. Now I am known in Tamil Nadu, Andhra etc. People like the film because of its relevance. This is not a problem of any one region. It can happen in every state. The greatest threat to mankind today is not from nature. Man’s greatest enemy today is man himself. Many people are facing problems due to this discrimination’ says Satya.
Though Satya has been much sought after ‘Viduthalai’, his first preference is always Kannada. ‘I was shaped by Kannada and Karnataka. Today I might be recognized by people from other languages, but I am what today am because of Kannada and Karnataka. I am forever indebted to this language and soil. Off late, I am getting good offers in Kannada and Tamil and my new projects will be officially announced soon’ concludes Satya.
