Looks like director Vijayaprasad does not want to mend his ways. In spite of getting a lot of flak for his double entendre in spite of a thought provoking script in ‘Petromax’, the director has continued the same in his latest film ‘Thotapuri’.
‘Thotapuri’ like his previous films is a thought provoking film based on human relationships. Apart from the relationships, Vijayaprasad also talks about humanity getting lost between the caste and religion fight. In spite of such a socially relevant subject, the film fails to live up to the expectations of the audience because of a weak script and an overdose of double meaning dialogues.
The film tells the story of Eere Gowda (Jaggesh) and Shakeela Banu (Aditi Prabhudeva) who belong to different religions and are in a relationship. Apart from these two, there are other characters like Donne Rangamma, Nanjamma and others. The story revolves around these four characters.
Actually, there is no ending or climax to this film and the story will be continued in the second part. The first part just establishes the central characters and the purpose of the film. The actual story is in the second part and that is the reason why Dhananjay’s character which is introduced only in the climax. The audience has to just hope that he will have more to play in the film.
‘Thotapuri’ is a double meaning comedy with philosophical undertones. Though the purpose and the philosophy of life is the highlight of the film, the overdose of double meaning dialogues irks the audience. Vijayaprasad instead of lagging the film and bore the audience with unwanted scenes and dialogues, could have easily made a single film with a tight script.
Jaggesh is the highlight of the film. His mannerism and dialogue delivery is a treat to watch. Aditi Prabhudeva, Veena Sundar, Hema Dutt, Dattanna, Suman Ranganath have given adequate support. Anoop Seelin’s background music is also one of the highlights of the film.
