Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Liger’ has been in the news from the beginning. The makers have been spending time on making it big and promoting high. If only they had set the money and time for the script, ‘Liger’ would have been a better film.

‘Liger’ starts off with Balamani (Ramya Krishnan) and her son Liger (Vijay deverakonda) moving to Mumbai from Karimnagar. Liger who is ridiculed by everybody for his stammering, wants to make it big in Mixed Martial Arts. Soon Liger finds a coach and focuses on becoming a MMA fighter. Balamani, warns Liger not to get distracted by falling in love. But Liger falls in love with a social media celebrity called Tanya. What happens next can be predicted easily.

Director Puri Jagannath, who has given some memorable films in the past is back with ‘Liger’. The director is still in the hangover of some of his previous films including ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’. The story is so stale and Puri Jagannath has not put in enough efforts to suit to the taste of today’s audience. The film though starts on a promising note with a street fight. Slowly, the film goes downhill with the usual arrival of the heroine and a beginning of a love track.

The first half of the film is very boring. The second half of the film is even more tiresome. Though a few well choreographed grabs the viewers attention, it is the lousy screenplay tests the patience of the audience. Boxing legend Mike Tyson plays the role of Mark Henderson in this film. His role is not funny, but silly. Tyson’s confrontation with Liger does not create any interest in the audience.

Vijay Deverakonda’s physical transformation is great. Ramya Krishnan is too loud. Ananya Panday has nothing much to do and has a long way to go. The rest of the star cast including Chunkey Pandey, Ali, Ronit Roy has nothing much to do in the film.

‘Liger’ is a regular rags-to-riches story with the regular stuff. But the film does not live up to one’s expectations.
