Just when the news broke out that the Padma awards will be announced on the 25th of January, a lot of people had expected that veteran actor Ananth Nag might get a Padma award at least this time. But the hopes have been shattered as not only Ananth Nag’s but none from the Kannada film industry has got recognition this time.
Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked the people of the country to nominate inspiring people for the Padma Awards. Ananth Nag has been the frontrunner for Padma awards in recent years. However, due to various reasons the veteran actor has missed the awards. This time, a campaign was also started in the social media to nominate Ananth Nag for the awards for the year 2022.
Many actors and technicians like Rishab Shetty and Rakshit Shetty came forward and requested fans to be a part of the campaign and sign the petition to nominate the veteran actor for the Padma Awards. Actor Yash wrote a letter in social media in this regard.
So, there was hope among Kannadigas that the veteran actor may be honoured with a Padma award at least this time. Apart from Ananth Nag, there is a general opinion that actor Shivarajkumar and senior music director and lyricist Hamsalekha must also be considered for their contribution to the field of cinema. Recently, after the demise of Puneeth Rajkumar, fans urged the Karnataka Government to recommend Puneeth’s name for the Padma Awards for his contribution.
However, none of the above three were nominated for the Padma awards this time.
