Last week Ravichandran’s ‘Drishya 2’ which is a remake of Malayalam hit ‘Drushyam 2’ was released across Karnataka. This week Ravichandran’s another film ‘Kannadiga’ has been released. This time it’s not a theatrical release, but the film has been directly released in Zee 5.
‘Kannadiga’ was launched in August 2020 and the film was completed and censored by year end. However, the film’s release got delayed due to the pandemic and is finally streaming in Zee 5 from 17th of December.
‘Kannadiga’ is a story set in 1890s in Karnataka. The film traces the journey of a scholar called Gunabhadra, who belongs to a family which preserves Kannada language and its heritage from generations. The film is a fictional tale set in the times of Reverend Ferdinand Kittel, who is known producing the first Kannada to English dictionary. While, Ravichandran is seen in the role of Gunabhadra, Jamie Alter plays the role of Kittel in the film.
One of the highlights of the film is, Ravichandran has played double role in the film. While, he is seen in the role of Gunabhadra, he also plays his forefather Samanthabhadra in the film. The film also stars Pavana Gowda, Rockline Venkatesh, Chi Gurudutt, Balaji Manohar and others in prominent roles.
‘Kannadiga’ is written and directed by Giriraj of ‘Jatta’ fame. The film is produced by N S Rajakumar. G S V Seetharam is the cinematographer, while Ravi Basrur is the music composer.
