Puneeth Rajkumar to be conferred with ‘Karnataka Ratna’ posthumously

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday announced that Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar who died recently will be conferred with ‘Karnataka Ratna’ award posthumously.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce had organized a condolence meet in the memory of the late actor. Many politicians as well as celebrities were present at the event. During the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the actor will be conferred with ‘Karntaka Ratna’ posthumously.

Basavaraj Bommai also said that there are many suggestions from various sections of the society to recommend Puneeth’s name for various awards at National level. Bommai said that the matter will be discussed in the cabinet meeting and a suitable decision will be taken soon.

Earlier, Puneeth’s father Dr Rajkumar was conferred the ‘Karnataka Ratna’ by the Karnataka Government two decades ago. ‘Karnataka Ratna’ is considered as the State’s highest civilian honour and Puneeth is the 10th recipient of the honour.

Puneeth died of heart attack on the 29th of October in Bangalore. He was cremated two days later with State Honours.
