Darshan starrer ‘The Devil’ is all set to hit the screens on the 11th of December amidst the absence of the actor who is currently in Parappana Agrahara Jail on the charges of the murder of Renukaswamy. Meanwhile, the team is busy with the promotions of the film. For the first time, Prakash Veer the director and the producer off ‘The Devil’ called a press conference in Bangalore and talked about the film exclusively.
Prakash says that Darshan not being with the team during the promotions of the film is a very big vacuum. ‘Nobody can fill that void. The reason for holding this press meet is the belief that Darshan would be present with us. Darshan is a super strength for me. Not just as a person or as an actor, but also as a friend. Darshan is my family friend. We are definitely missing him a lot. In his absence, his family is a big support to all of us. Darshan’s fans are promoting the film day and night. Darshan is very much blessed to have such a fan following’ says Prakash.
The director who had earlier directed successful films like ‘Milana’ and ‘Vamshi’ says this is not just a film for Darshan’s fans, but for the entire family. ‘But the approach is very different. Everybody says that they expect another ‘Milana’ from me. I can’t replicate ‘Milana’ or cannot do another ‘Milana’. I also need different challenges. I also want to try different stories as a director. It was Darshan who insisted that we have to do a family film. I had some other story in mind. That’s how the film happened. After that, when we thought of making another film, I said I wanted to showcase Darshan according to my vision. That’s how ‘The Devil’ took shape. That’s when I told him this thread. Both the journeys are different. Having said that, it is a film that an entire film can watch without any hesitation’ says Prakash.
Prakash says that Darshan really had a back pain and it was not a gimmick. ‘Darshan was so professional, that he did not say anything about his personal life. He completed the shoot without any problems. He knew that the film is already late. He wanted to release the film soon. Regarding the back pain, we in the sets knew well how much medicines and injections he used to take during the work. The back pain existed and in spite of that he completed the shoot’ says Prakash Veer.
Recently, there were news that they are no buyers for the film and the makers themselves are releasing the film. Prakash rejects it by saying, ‘we had decided to release the film by ourselves long back and we are releasing the film with the help of Supreeth and Gangadhar. They are doing the theatre setup and we are releasing the film. The film will be released in a maximum number of theatres. There is a huge demand for the film across Karnataka. We are releasing the film only in Kannada and there are no plans of dubbing the film to other languages and releasing it there’ confirms Prakash.
When asked whether the title ‘The Devil’ would be negative? Prakash says, ‘the Title ‘The Devil’ is very much apt for the story. In fact, the title was with another producer. We requested them to give us the title. The script required such a title and there is no negativity here’ concluded Prakash.
‘The Devil’ is being produced under the Sri Jayamatha Combines banner, with Prakash Veer writing the story and screenplay and directing. The film was shot in locations including Bengaluru, Rajasthan and Bangkok. Cinematography is by Sudhakar S. Raj and music is composed by Ajaneesh Loknath. The cast includes Darshan, Rachana Rai, Tulasi, Achyuth Kumar, Mahesh Manjrekar, Srinivas Prabhu, Shobharaj and others.
