It has been three years since a movie starring Srujan Lokesh was released. His last outing was ‘Selfie Mummy Google Daddy’ where he was paired opposite Meghana Raj. Now Srujan is not only back as a producer and a hero, but has also made his debut as a director.
The special thing about ‘GST’ is that three generations of the same family have acted in it. Srujan Lokesh’s mother and veteran actress Girija Lokesh appears in an important role, while his son Sukruth has also shared the screen with his father and grandmother.
There is another interesting connection here. In the 1959 film ‘Bhakta Prahlada’, Srujan’s grandfather Subbaya Naidu and father acted in the film. While, his grandfather directed the film, his father made his debut as an actor. In the film ‘Bhujangayya’s Dashavatara’, while his father Lokesh directed the film, Srujan made his debut as a child artist in the film. Now in Srujan’s directorial film GST, his son Sukruth has acted.
Srujan says ‘GST’ is not just another horror comedy but also a children’s film. ‘Since my son has acted in it, it should be a movie he can proudly tell his friends to watch. So, we made a film that reaches children too. This movie is meant to make people laugh. There is no unnecessary glamour, no heroism. In the first scene itself, the hero tries to commit suicide. Why? Srujan also says that this is a film where people can laugh and happily return home. ‘There are six ghosts in this film. None of them are bad ghosts. The film is suitable for all age groups and all types of audiences. I have blended everything well. Even though it is a ghost movie, no one needs to be scared. It is a funny horror film’ he adds.
Talking about his first directing experience, Srujan says, ‘This is my idea and story. I didn’t know how other directors would interpret it. If I gave it to someone else and it didn’t come out the way I imagined, I would feel responsible for the mistake. So, I decided to take the responsibility myself. I wanted the film to appear exactly the way I imagined, so I became the director’ concludes Srujan Lokesh.
